When will my Mac officially scare me?
Not any time soon, as far as I can tell. Right now, there is no official Mac release date for Doom 3. As of mid-July, official word from id was "when it's done", although it appears that development has at least started on it.
The most recent news I could find comes from a report out of QuakeCon. Programmer Robert Duffy says:
both Linux and Max OS X versions of Doom III are moving in close development with the PC version and Hollenshead [CEO] said that they will have Mac and Linux files available for download when Doom III is released for the PC for people who run those operating systems . . .
Since the game is already out for the PC, I'm not so sure about the accuracy of this statement.
According to EBGames, the XBox version of the game should ship on 10/4/04, but we all know how these dates tend to shift around.

In college (non coincidentially when I had a new PC with a top of the line 3D card) I held a firm belief that computer gaming was far superior to console gaming. Computer games are better because they can stay at the cutting edge, and I pointed to all the guys in my dorm who thought GoldenEye was the greatest thing ever and laughed as I ran wild with Half Life and its CounterStrike plugin. Nowadays I'm leaning the other way. It's just too much to keep up with alternately buying a new computer or video card once a year. Because of this I'm kind of glad that Macs aren't video game machines as it forces me away from a lot of time and money that could be diverted to other diversions.

After seeing the Hello Kitty mod, I'm not sure the game could scare me anymore.

Yes, I agree with you. I like the fact that my Xbox will play all Xbox games that come out for it seamlessly. I don't need to download new drivers for it, or upgrade the RAM, or try to figure out what I'm having certain glitches. If I'm having those glitches, everyone is, and Xbox fixes it for me. Thanks guys.

Alternatively, I never thought Hello Kitty could scare me...

Well I agree with you to some degree. Console gaming is nice because game makers can push the system to its limits, because they know exactly what everyone will have, so they dont' have to worry about people having all kinds of different set ups. However, it is nice in PC Gaming to be able to upgrade and such and play newer and more amazing games as they come out. But really my main problem with console gaming is that I can't play FPS' with a mouse and keyboard. I don't care how well set up the controller is for the game, it won't be as good as a mouse and keyboard. I'm amazed no one has come out with just such a controller (ie some sort of adaptor or something) for the X-Box. And if they have, where is it and how can I get one?
